Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero was an American singer and model from the United States. Also, she was a co-star in Prince's 1984 film, Purple Rain. She was the lead female vocalist in Apollonia 6 and co-starred in Prince's film Purple Rain from 1984. It was among the many female artists that benefited from Prince's association in the 1980s. Born Patricia Kotero in Santa Monica California in 1959, her work began as a model actress in the late '70s with a role on the television show CHiPS. In 1984, she was cast as the female lead for Prince's Purple Rain (during which time he changed her name) and was replaced by Vanity in the female trio Vanity 6 singing with them in the film under the name Apollonia 6. Sex Shooter from the soundtrack had a small popularity for her group, however when she was Prince's duet partner on Take Me with You she was more successful. When the two had a disagreement regarding the direction she was taking in her career Apollonia six broke up and Kotero ended her association with Prince. The singer then appeared in couple of films that were minor in the 1980s (reportedly declining the opportunity to appear in the Purple Rain-follow-up Under the Cherry Moon), before settling on an evening-time part in the film Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut in 1988 but the comparatively insignificant collection of songs that incorporated dance/R&B did not impress those who bought music, and soon the album vanished off the shelves. During the following decade, she continued to work in the field of acting (if she was a bit under the radar), with minor film roles, television appearances as well as an exercise video.
